So – the story of the doubleneck. It was a typical day in Guitar Center – thirty discordant versions of mid-70s arena rock were played out by energetic folks. There’s two used Squire instruments on the wall – a bass, and a Strat. They were 59 bucks apiece.

So I have about 120 bucks more or less in the instruments. I took them apart, and set them up on the table saw to get them “more-or-less” to make ergonomic sense – as much ergonomic sense as a very, very heavy guitar can have..

This is how it looked after the table saw incident. You can see where the cutaway between the necks has been band sawed, and the final sanding and routing haven’t been done yet.

You can see how I smoothed the transition between the bodies. I eventually sanded down, and then sprayed the bass boat sparkle using one of Target Coatings excellent water based guitar finishes.

I replaced all of the pots and pickups with cheap e-bay buys, as well as the bass bridge. I set the truss rods and filed down a couple of errant frets. It plays OK, apart from possibly funding a chiropractor full time from lugging it around.
